EU saves Greece

Check this chart out.  Now do you know why the big guys in EU were so adamant about creating a shock and awe package?  Because their bankers told them to.  Plus ca change………..

When the wind’s in the east the fish bite the least

As the east wind brought in thunderstorms, followed by hail and then snow, I didn’t see any enthusiasm in the (nice warm) cabin for challenging the conventional wisdom!  When you’re lucky enough to have an expert best to listen to him.

Frank Kuiak, the “Last Algonquin Fishing Guide” remains of course impervious to weather, seemingly ambivalent  to age, gracious when faced with a lack of fishing skills (except for Patrick and Bob) of his group, and accomplished at camp fire cooking.  Plus ca change…………

When wind is from the north like it was on Thursday and Friday, the fish might be biting but it can get a bit chilly if the north wind is blowing on a day when the temperature is 1 or 2 degrees.   Regardless there were fish for shore lunch and enough to send home.  Can’t say have ever pulled a trout out of Penn Lake, and of course didn’t personally this time either, however see Frank above!

In addition to the catch and ancillary fun & amusement, the bar was raised in last minute excuses this year.  I understand next year we will be requiring notarized letters from an MD.

When the weather is challenging it places a greater demand on the companionship, which more than rose to the occasion on this years (sic) Tynhead Expert Fishermans Weekend.  Thanks to John and Bob and Patrick for the tremendous logistics, and to Michael and Oliver for being such gracious losers at Euchre to Andy and I.

26.2 Miles in the Rain

Pittsburgh marathon top 5 men finishers, as they cruise by Hampton St. at Mile 20.  Kenya contingent have yet to break a sweat.  Margaret and children hid under the umbrellas, and I tried not to let my cigarette smoke blow on the course.  What kind of Elite Fluid you think this guy’s been drinking?

If you’re looking for us 5.14 after 6pm we’re busy

It’s that time a year again for the Annual Pedal Pale Ale Ride.  A Pittsburgh tradition now in it’s 5th year!

Every year in May, cyclists gather at the East End Brewing Company in Homewood for one of the funnest and most unique cycling events around. To celebrate the yearly birth of The Pedal Pale Ale, EEBC’s summer brew, the first batch gets delivered by bike.  However, there is a catch.  No one but the keg pullers know where the ride’s going, so riders must stay behind the keg in order to arrive at the super-secret tap spot to drink their beer, the first one for free.  And every year the amount of people that shows up doubles, leaving us in 2009 to lead over 500 riders, pied piper style, to the end.

My new found favorite brewery and biking. Leave those century rides for the yuppies. If they could stop for a couple of hours at Schenley Park Golf Course life would be complete.

Ben Folds

Img00013-20100424-1602

I (Megan Kelly Boright) went back to Lehigh on Saturday to see Ben Folds preform in concert. He seemed to have forgot his band though and only brought himself and his piano. It wasn’t the fun, upbeat, outdoor dance party I was hoping for. Oh well. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
