Pittsburgh Marathon on Bryant Street

This gallery contains 28 photos.

A sunny day for once, Chris visits en route home from Chicago, the band plays, and the spectators are as interesting as the runners.

Boys play golf in Southern Pines NC

Not very good pics, but are better than my golf was on Sunday.  We do this again and I’ll just concentrate on taking pictures.  Also life lesson.  Better to be a snorer than a snoree.  May also be a life metaphor.

Officially Old

Willingly pass on a day sur les pistes to go x-country skiing, because it will give your shoulder (which you wrenched falling 4 weeks ago, and again last weekend and still hasn’t gotten better) a rest.

Crash on the first little hill you come to.  Protect your shoulder by not putting your hand down, but use your head instead and leave a good size salad bowl indentation in the snow.  Not as well thought through as you’d like.

More advil.

New aches next morning, 8 inches of fresh, decide not to take extra advil in favour of watching the Penguins and reading a book.

Hmmmmm.

Love Locked

Pittsburgh isn’t Paris.  East Liberty Presbyterian Church isn’t Notre Dame.  A bridge over the busway isn’t quite the Seine. It is however the thought that counts.

Lovelocks on the Pont de l’Archevêché, near Notre Dame in Paris.

And the first lovelock on the bridge outside Whole Foods means that Margaret can see it almost every day.

Road trips

Marg goes 370 miles east. Alec goes 600k north.

I can tell it’s Canada because they’re expecting 25 cm of snow and the question on talk radio is “how has hockey changed your perspective on life?”

800 miles each and back in Pittsburgh.

Just another week.

Each of our individual acts of kindness are God

Here’s a nice explanation for where to find God’s grace. OP-ED COLUMNIST: Why, God?

http://nyti.ms/V1fwHt No all seeing all knowing entity watching over each of us everyday. Certainly not some misogynistic “church” bureaucracy telling us how to live our lives.

No magic bullets, no superstar quarterback or movie star, not someone else’s job.

It’s about each of us and what we do, and then collectively the effect we all have on our families and communities.

At the end of our days, our “score” will be based on what we’ve given, not what we’ve got. It is the effort of thinking of someone else; it is the thought that counts. If we each try to make something better for someone else, we will all be better, blessed, God will smile, and put his feet up.

Merry Christmas.
