oh and by the way, its not the NRA’s fault.

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre also blamed lack of government funding.

"With all the foreign aid … with all the money in federal budget … can’t we afford to put a police officer in every school?"

A lesser part of his speech placed blame on a media culture that he suggested promoted violence. He took aim at celebrities, video games, and movies for advancing that culture.

"Another little dirty secret the media tries to conceal," LaPierre says, is "a callous corrupt and disgusting shadow industry … vicious violent video games." He then called violent films "the filthiest form of pornography."

"Then there’s the blood-soaked slasher films like ‘American Psycho’ and ‘Natural Born Killers’ that are aired like propaganda loops on ‘Splatterdays’ and every day," he said, "and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life."

No worries…the NRA have got it

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said in a news conference Friday  “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”  Seriously?A solution is to put armed guards in 100k K-12 schools?  Interesting idea brought to us by the fertile mind that went on to muse about whether schools being “gun free zones” was really an invitation to lunatics, and that it wasn’t The Guns fault, it was (pick the one that works for you): the media, the entertainment industry, video games…..Who could blame those poor little inanimate objects when faced with all that societal pressure.Someone should have reminded LaPierre of that saying that it’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. The world is laughing at us.  Well maybe not the Congo, Syria, Somalia, etc., but most of the world. Glad we dignified the Sandy Hook tragedy by pausing for a week for this debate.  Can we get back to fiscal cliff diving now?

Reminds me Lally…

Once again, with the Xmas lights as with Halloween, I was forced to operate without my apprentice.

You’ll notice on the previous post that I left the Magnolia undecorated so you’d have something to do when you get home.  And that your snowman has his usual prominence.

And just so you know, while there is an app for jack-o-lanterns, when it came down to it felt guilty without the real thing, even sans apprentice.

Wonder how many years that will last for.  Next year maybe turn the lights out on Halloween and leave them off until New Years.

Light-up Night on Hampton St.

Nice of Reverend Bruce to bring out the band across the street to celebrate.  Guess Sox agrees with the old saying about bag pipes sounding like stepping on cats; despite all the activity Sox skipped church and stayed home.

Afghanistan Explained. Have we left yet?

Nice –  here we have a picture explaining how Afghanistan works.  Love the title; Afghanistan Stability. Really?

Betting anything this complicated has missed important details & links in the analysis process, never mind  been “simplified” for discussion purposes.

More probably an explanation of why lines drawn on a map, for a western concept of a country, doesn’t work.   Glad that we learned in Vietnam, and then relearned in Iraq, that nation building doesn’t work.  Apparently warrants further study and investment.

Am also sure we are stimulating the P&L’s of any number of consultants and contractors doing all this analysis, replete with high flying language and expensive programs to help Afghanistan become a <sic> much better place.  Lucky USA is in such good shape so that we can afford this adventure.

Ever tried to straighten out a pile of fishing line that looked like this?  That work out well?

Now you see it, and then you don’t.

Where oh where can the boys boat be, or where or where can it be…….

Monday morning we see it, Tuesday morning not so much.  Guess we won’t be the only people looking, and at least we know where the house still is.

Could have been worse. It was for these poor people.

Nice view of where their houses used to be.  A collection of 7 Stevens, Holgate, and Beach Haven pics.Guess we should feel lucky to be missing a front door and some sliding windows at the pool.

Hopefully we still feel lucky once we get a real look at the place.
